About Seabirds

We were unintentional year round swimmers who started a Social Enterprise in 2018. We run an online swim shop and swim coaching programmes with the aim of raising funds for our Community Swim Project.

The Project provides free swimming lessons and kit to people in our local community who have the least access to them but would benefit from them the most. Our lessons are specifically adapted to accommodate a wide variety of swimmers. Our aim is to increase the diversity and improve the inclusivity of the sea swimming community in Brighton & Hove. If you are afraid of the water, if you cannot afford swimming lessons, if you don’t see people like you swimming in the sea it is not available to you. Help us be the change so that more people can swim in the sea and realise the physical and mental health benefits the sea and community can bring.

Why subscribe?

Your subscription raises funds so that more people can access the sea and realise the benefits of being part of a sea swimming community. Every subscriptions pays for beginner and aquaphobic specialised lessons for adults that are currently underrepresented in the outdoor swimming community.

95% of black adults and 80 per cent of black children in England do not swim. We want to do something to change this and we need you to help fund it! We currently facilitate courses of swimming lessons for local refugees and asylum seekers and then introduce them to the sea and our sea swimming community.

We also provide adapted lessons for the Sussex MS society, Trans People partnering with TransCanSport and people utilising the NHS Early Intervention Service. We also facilitate aquaphobia courses for swimmers who have experienced water related trauma.

Please get in touch if you work with a community group that may benefit from a more tailor made swimming course or session.

Get In Touch

A paid subscription also provides you with full access to the newsletter and website. We create and share articles, blogs and videos on everything you need or want to know about swimming in the sea. There is safety advice, articles on mental health benefits, kit reviews, book and film recommendations and just our sea swimming inspired thoughts that hopefully will inspire you to get in the sea. Never miss an update.

Stay up-to-date

You won’t have to worry about missing anything. Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox. Don’t worry, if swimming conditions are good, we prioritise this over writing newsletters and blogs so you shouldn’t get too many!
