Some people definitely find it hard to float - it's all about relaxing the body - which sounds easier than it is! But we can all float.
I practice floating as a self rescue technique every time I get in the sea. But its also a lovely way to spend time looking at the clouds, drifting......
I always thought that floating was something that required effort. I had been told when very young that floating happened on top of the water rather than being somewhat under. Muscle control to keep your body and legs on the surface was torture, and I couldn’t understand why others could do it so easily. This is where group swimming comes into its own. I watched others floating in the water. They were just lying there, letting the water hold them! Their heads were partly submerged, not lifted! I decided to give floating another go and relaxed. Oh wow, the very best feeling of being part of something so huge, but so comforting.
I couldn't float until I started learning to do front crawl properly a few years ago. Think it was more of a psychological shift than actually learning how to do it. Now it's pretty much all I so, especially while hugging my tow float like an otter.
When I was a teacher one of the other teachers who did scuba diving said people were either floaters or sinkers. If you were a floater you'd need weights to keep you down to do scuba diving - I didn't ask about sinkers and whether they could float if they did it the right way - what do you think?

Yes - the key to floating is to relax. Glad you found the floating feeling x

Yes definitely about learning how to relax - which is easier said than done. And we love otters!
It's s a skill needed throughout life, like many things the water teaches us.
